Resin Chaos

I've been glassing the last couple of days. Something I mostly enjoy. The vivid colours, the shiny slickness of wet resin, the alertness and slightly increased heart rate when you're racing against the catalyst. Time flies.

Working primarily with resin tints and pigments I've also been making a mess. Colours up my arms... drips on my t shirt, my jeans, even the soles of my shoes are a sticky mess. In the shower the last few nights I've pulled out most of my arm hairs that are coated with resin.

Its really nice at the end of the day to lean in the doorway to the glassing room and just take in the days work. It completely amazes me that you get such a beautiful result out of all those fumes and stickiness.

Paul from Canada

I met Paul out in the surf at Raglan NZ last year and was struck by his friendly nature and enthusiasm for surfing. We caught up again earlier this year when Paul was traveling in Oz and happened to be passing through the area. He was keen to check out the factory with the idea in mind of making some boards for himself sometime in the future.

I got these pics via email the other night of Paul's efforts - handmade beauties. Being landlocked in Canada, he's only surfed them behind a boat in the river so far, but he's having fun. He's super keen to get them in the ocean sometime soon.

I reckon thats awesome.

Mix up.

The other day I was making two posts at once, one on my Blog about Keith Novosel and the other here about a  pic by Justin Bevan of Sage at the Noosa festival. I got mixed up and credited both posts to Keith when really the pic of Sage should have been credited to MR Bevan. Bevo takes great shots so you should take the time to check out his blog LongVeiw. Sorry mate.

Paul in South Africa 1973

Dad on a solid Jeffreys Bay wall surfing his 8'2" Single Fin. In 1973, Paul spent 12 months in South Africa and the entire Winter at Jeffrey's. Being pre-legropes dad would surf in the morning, come in and fix any dings from loosing his board to the rocks lining the point, then surf in the afternoon.

Old Mal Titles.

Last weekend was the Australian old mal titles at crescent head. The surf conditions were extremely testing as there was a 30 knot NE wind bashing the east coast. However the waves were pretty fun and good times were had by all. I competed in the under 40's old mal and the alaia division and finished up with a 3rd and a 2nd. Jack competed in the new event this year called the log roll, which was a division that judged traditional surfing with a bit of a twist on modern logs and he came away with a 3rd as well.
